My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to dance and to use dance artistically, expressively, and professionally, regardless of background or ability. In my classes, I aim to create learning environments where dancers feel safe to explore who they are and what dancing looks like in their own bodies.

Adaptation is central to my work — not as accommodation, but as creativity. I design movement around the strengths and needs of the dancers in front of me, trusting that choreography becomes more meaningful when students are co-creators rather than recipients.

UHS Improv Class

This class, taught to University High School Advanced/Intermediate Magnet dancers, introduces students to improvisation through guided exploration, a progressive stacking warmup, traveling prompts that build spatial and dynamic awareness, and a center phrase focused on timing and stillness.

The lesson is designed to help dancers reflect on their feelings about improvisation, understand its importance, and develop confidence and strategies for engaging with it more fully.

Expressions Rehearsal – Rollins College

This video features me leading a rehearsal for my Expressions piece, created for Rollins College’s annual Expressions Dance Concert. In this session, I am teaching the final section of the choreography to my undergraduate dance students for the first time. The footage showcases my process for introducing new movement, scaffolding choreography, answering questions, and guiding dancers through learning and embodiment of phrasework.

Two versions are available: a full-length rehearsal video and an excerpted version with time-stamped sections for quick reference.

Excerpt Time Stamps

  • 00:00–2:01 – Teaching a Phrase: Introducing and breaking down new choreography for the final section of the piece.

  • 2:01–3:38 – Adapting Movement: Responding to dancer questions and exploring movement variations to support comfort and timing.

  • 3:38–5:09 – Guided Practice: Offering verbal cues and visual prompts while dancers run the phrase, with in-the-moment feedback.

  • 5:09–7:03 – Technique & Integration: Coaching through a cartwheel-to-floor transition and refining details through repetition and check-ins.

  • 7:03–9:37 – Scaffolding Choreography: Layering new material and demonstrating how I build sequences progressively.

  • 9:37–End – Collaborative Clarification: Working alongside dancers to clarify movement and ensure shared understanding of movement intent.
